Fashion retailer Abercrombie & Fitch will open its first flagship store in Japan, and first in Asia, in Tokyo's upmarket Ginza district this year.

Opening on 15 December, the store will occupy 970 square metres and the first 11 floors of a building on Ginza Street, which is the Japanese equivalent of the Champs-Elysees in Paris.

The company said the building will be architect-led and as eye-catching as the other new retail buildings in the area.

Other flagship openings to which the company is committed in 2009 include Hollister Co in Soho, and Abercrombie & Fitch and Abercrombie in Milan. The company also expects its Abercrombie & Fitch flagship in Copenhagen and Abercrombie flagship in New York to open in 2010.
