Youth-oriented fashion chain Abercrombie & Fitch Co has lifted its fourth quarter earnings outlook on the back of better-than-expected December same-store sales.

The Ohio-based operator of nearly 600 stores reported flat same-store sales for the five weeks to January 5 and said total sales soared 19 per cent to $296 million from $249.6m in the year-ago period.

It now expects to report quarterly earnings per share in the range of 86-88 cents compared to its original forecast of 79 cents.

A&F added year-to-date net sales increased 17 per cent to $1.51 billion from $1.3bn last year.
