Children's wear specialist Adams has signed a franchise agreement with retailer and distributor FashionLink SA to launch the Adams brand in Greece.

The first three stores will open in Athens, Larisa and Patras in November 2002. Adams and FashionLink say they are planning to develop a chain of around 60 stores across Greece over the next 10 years.

The new stores will carry the core Adams range, which will gradually be tailored to local customer requirements during successive seasons.

A team from Adams in the UK will help to train the 20 Greek staff who are being recruited to work in the new stores. Merchandising specialists from the UK will also provide store design and layout support to the local staff.

"We already have a very successful operation in Cyprus with seven stores, and FashionLink is a subsidiary company of our existing Cypriot franchise partner, one of the biggest companies quoted on the Cyprus Stock Exchange controlled by the NKShacolas Group of Companies," explained Ian Cooper, multi-channel director at Adams.

"In the first 12 months we are anticipating sales of around 150,000 units from the Greek stores, and a turnover in excess of £1 million. This is our first franchise operation in an EU country, and we hope it will be an excellent blue-print for further expansion across Europe."

Adams currently has 60 international franchise stores in Saudi Arabia, the Gulf region, Cyprus and Malta.
