Sportswear manufacturer Adidas has announced the launch of a barefoot trainer designed for the gym.

The footwear manufacturer announced yesterday (23 August), that the adipure Trainer promotes "pure and natural movement" by harnessing the body's natural mechanics, activating and strengthening muscles, while building muscles and promoting dexterity.

The shoe features an independent to separation design and a quarter-inch minimalistic profile, which allows the foot to be close to the ground for optimal speed, balance and agility during a workout.

Adidas said the barefoot-shaped construction of the adipure Trainer mimics the foot's anatomy creating a natural feeling shoe that still protects the skin and provides traction and durability.

It is available in the US for US$90 from Dick's Sporting Goods, Foot Locker and Sports Authority.
