Adidas-Salomon AG, the world's second-largest sporting-goods maker, is considering a partial closure of its production plant in Scheinfeld, southern Germany.

The 53-year-old plant employing 100 workers manufactures football boots for the mass market, but competes with Adidas production sites in Asia where costs are significantly lower.

A company spokeswoman is quoted by AFX News as saying that production at the site is becoming more and more unprofitable.

Adidas produces other shoes at Scheinfeld and has a Test Centre there. There are so far no plans to shut these facilities, which employ a further 100 people.
