Sportswear giant Adidas-Salomon AG says it plans to record football-related sales of more than €1 billion in 2006, with percentage growth in the two-digit range.

Adidas' home country Germany is playing host to the football World Cup next year, opening up a lucrative opportunity for the company to cash in on the game's popularity.

The company's head of soccer-related business, Guenter Weigl, said that sales in the football merchandise area should total €900 million this year - the same as last year.
