Brazil may have won this year's soccer World Cup but Japan's success in last month's tournament netted German sportswear giant Adidas Salomon AG a small fortune.

The company's chairman, Herbert Hainer, said on Tuesday that Adidas sold 600,000 replica shirts of the Japanese soccer team as they cashed in on the co-hosts' successful run to the knockout rounds.

He added that demand for replica Germany strips was also high but did not give any specific sales figures.
