Leading Spanish fashion chain Adolfo Dominguez SA on Friday posted an eight per cent climb in full-year net profit to 8.7 million euros from 8.1 million euros in the year-ago period on the back of higher sales.

The company, based in the heart of the textile industry in northwest Spain, said total sales rose 12 per cent last year to 118.3 million euros from 105.9 million euros in 2001, with same-store sales up four per cent.

The operator of nearly 230 stores under banners such as "U" attributed its solid performance to strong international sales and an ambitious expansion drive.

It added it expects to enjoy similar sales and profit growth in 2003 when it will continue to open new stores.
