UK women's clothing retailer Alexon Group Plc has lured John Boyle from Selfridges to be its new group finance director and company secretary.

Boyle, who was head of finance and the Connect internal service centre at the up-market department store, replaces Robin Piggott who is retiring after more than 20 years to pursue other opportunities.

Alexon, which earlier this week posted a first half loss of GBP8.1m (US$12.9m) after incurring heavy charges related to the collapse of its Bay Trading arm, sees the appointment as key to its turnaround strategy.

"His impressive track record at Selfridges; knowledge of the department store sector; and ability to put in place strong processes and systems will be of great benefit to Alexon," said group CEO Jane McNally.

Boyle added: "There is a clear plan in place and I look forward to working to ensure that the Group delivers shareholder value over the coming months and years."
