Garment company Algo Group said it will end ladies' apparel production at its plant in Montreal on 6 January.

The closure, which will result in 23 job losses, will signal the end of Algo's Canadian manufacturing as the rest of its goods are already imported,

Apparel made at the Montreal plant made up about 16% of Algo's total sales in 2004.

Algo said the decision was aimed at cutting costs as the company strives to up its competitive edge.
