The non-executive chairman of UK department store chain Bhs, Allan Leighton, is stepping down from his position at the company, it has been reported.

Leighton, who has served seven years in the job, is to devote more of his attention to the role of chairman at Royal Mail, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The newspaper also reported that the move comes shortly after he held informal talks to buy the company through a bid backed by Selfridges' owners the Weston family in July.

Bhs was unavailable to comment when contacted by just-style today (3 December).
