Teen apparel retailer American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) has hired Peter Horvath, a former chief operating officer for Victoria's Secret Stores, as its new chief global commercial and administrative officer.

Reporting to CEO Jay Schottenstein, Horvath will be responsible for global store operations, real estate, human resources, merchandise planning and allocation, legal and corporate strategy.

He joins AEO from Mission Essential Personnel, a provider of intelligence and insight to the US Departments of Defense, State, Homeland Security and the Intelligence Community, where he was CEO and chairman. Prior to this, he served as EVP and chief operating officer of Victoria's Secret Stores from July 2008 to December 2010. He is also a former president of footwear retailer DSW Inc.

"I worked closely with Peter at DSW, and I'm thrilled he is joining AEO in this important leadership role," said Jay Schottenstein. "He is an effective and strategic retail executive, with strong consumer and brand experience. He will help us identify new operational efficiencies and drive profitable growth."

American Eagle Outfitters operates more than 1,000 stores, and most recently said initiatives to strengthen its merchandise, omni-channel initiatives and international growth helped lift full year net income by 171% to $218.1m, while revenue increased 7% to $3.52bn.
