Industrial sewing and embroidery thread major American & Efird (A&E) is expanding its business in southeast Asia, inking a licensing deal with a leading thread producer in the Philippines.

Under the terms of the agreement, Manila Bay Thread Corporation will represent A&E in the country, providing strategic support for the company's global customers and local production capabilities while expanding its global footprint.

Founded in 1956, Manila Bay serves a wide variety of customers in the apparel, leather goods, and non-apparel categories.

Now, the new deal will allow for local manufacturing and delivery of A&E's brands into what the company calls an "important geographic market".

A&E products are currently manufactured in 23 countries worldwide and sold in over 100.

Earlier this year, A&E acquired India's Vardhman Yarns and Threads in a deal the company said  will accelerate its global growth and diversification.
