Ladies' wear retailer Ann Taylor Stores Corp has reported a second-quarter earnings increase of 43 per cent.

Earnings were $30.2 million on revenue of $472.6m, up from $21.8 on revenue of $390.2m, in the same period last year.

The results have been attributed to new-store growth strategy and good same-store sales.

Strong sales in the company's Loft division also helped offset weak performance in core Ann Taylor stores. Same-store sales rose 7 per cent.

First-half earnings totalled $61.98 million on revenue of $905.9m, compared to $39.1m on revenue of $742.2m in 2003.
