The AGOA visa systems of Mozambique and Uganda have been approved, thereby qualifying apparel imports from both countries for duty-free status under AGOA. The announcement was made by US Trade Representative Robert Zoellick at an October 26 White House briefing on Africa trade.

The approval of Mozambique and Uganda brings to 11 the number of AGOA beneficiaries that have qualified for duty-free apparel imports. The other approved countries are: Botswana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, South Africa and Swaziland.

Neither Mozambique nor Uganda has traditionally had a large apparel industry or significant apparel exports to the United States.
