The appreciation of the Indian rupee against major currencies, coupled with the depreciation of the Pakistani rupee, has worked in favour of Pakistan's apparel exports.

The country's apparel exports increased by 11% during the first eight months of 2007 to reach US$2.3bn compared with US$2.0bn during the same period last year.

Sheikh Mukhtar, chairman of Fiasalabad Garment City, told just-style that the industry is still waiting for a long-term textile policy to be introduced by the government to sustain this growth.
