Arvind Ltd, one of India's largest textile and apparel makers, is to spin off its brands and retail units into two of its subsidiary businesses from 1 April 2009.

Under the plans announced today (28 November), its brands business (which includes Arrow, Flying Machine, Newport and Excalibur) will be transferred to Arvind Lifestyle Brands Ltd.

This unit also has licensing deals with Hartmarx's Hart Schaffner Marx and Sansabelt brands, Izod and Pierre Cardin in the pipeline.

The company's retail division, which includes 150 MegaMart stores and the Cherokee license, will move to Arvind Retail Ltd.
