Athletic wear maker Asics America Corporation said ever-increasing footwear sales led to a record financial performance in 2004.

Total sales for 2004 increased 12.5 per cent from 2003, reaching $223.8 million.

Footwear sales rose 13.5 per cent year-to-date, with future orders rising 61 per cent for 2005.

Rich Bourne, Asics America Corporation president, said that Asics' consistency within technological and product innovations, and a wish to be the top athletic brand, was "paying off in large dividends".

Asics manufactures and distributes footwear, sportswear, and uniforms for a number of sports, with its footwear collections contributing toward nearly 60 per cent of total sales.
