Chameleoid Mesh by Asics Corporation and Toray Industries combines unique visual effects with a comfortable fit.

Japan's Asics Corporation and Toray Industries have teamed up to develop a new high performance fabric that changes colour depending on the angle at which it is viewed.

The new 'Chameleoid Mesh' is also breathable, lightweight and offers high flexibility – and will be used by Asics in its new Gel-Quantum 360 CM running shoe, as well as in Asics Tiger shoes for the sporting lifestyle market.

Developed jointly by the Asics Institute of Sports Science and the Toray Advanced Textiles Development Center, the fabric uses textile production technology that can control the placement of threads on a microscopic level. This enabled a spatial structure to be created that changes colors depending on the angle of view and movement.

The mesh is partly made of a highly-elastic fabric that gives better flexibility and comfort both along the length and breadth of the foot.

All phases of production – from threads used to dyeing and production – take place in Japan.
