• FY net profit up 32.7% to JPY11.046bn
  • Net sales up 4.9% to JPY235.3bn
  • Americas, Asia Pacific driving growth

Sporting goods company Asics posted a near one-third hike in full-year profits, mostly thanks to the absence of accrued income taxes from the bottom line.

A 4.9% sales rise in the year to 31 March was driven by a 12.4% increase in the Americas and a 21.5% in Asia Pacific, offset by a 1.9% decline in Japan, while Europe edged up 0.3%.

The company said conditions remained mostly difficult, adding that the Japanese market was facing an “unpredictable” future following the earthquake of 11 March this year.

It added that business conditions in general were expected to remain “extremely severe” during the new fiscal year.
