Online fashion retailer ASOS has closed its website and suspended share trading after an oil depot explosion in Hemel Hempstead damaged its warehouse.

The blast at the Buncefield plant, which has cast dark clouds over London's skies, has wrecked havoc for several local businesses including ASOS, which had recently moved to the site.

ASOS - which was formerly known as As Seen On Screen - is now assessing the level of damage to the warehouse.

The company said it is fully insured for business interruption and stock loss but cast a negative note on Christmas trading.

Chief executive Nick Robertson was reported by media as saying: "Christmas is over for us. It was the minute the thing happened.

"We need to rely on our goodwill that we have created with our customers over the past four years."
