Shoppers on the Asos website and mobile app experienced technical problems

UK online fashion retailer Asos says a technical glitch affecting customers using its ordering system last weekend has not had a major impact on sales.

Shoppers on the Asos website and mobile app experienced technical problems last Sunday (28 December) when the site was unable to handle orders for several hours.

While the website was still able to support browsing, during its 50% off sale, the 'saved items' function failed for a "few hours", a spokesperson for the retailer told just-style.

"We were only down for a few hours. It was very frustrating but it was a technical glitch that meant customers could browse but there were problems with their 'saved items'. There was no real impact [on sales] though."

In early December, Asos posted an 8% boost to first quarter revenues, but saw international sales hit by the strong pound.

Conlumino's senior fashion consultant, Anusha Couttigane, acknowledged the "promising start" for the retailer, but said the company was still "ironing out bugbears" which were impacting performance.

In June, the company was hit by a fire at its distribution centre in Barnsley which "compromised" around 20% of its stock.
