Bangladesh this week launched a skills training programme

Bangladesh has launched a new skills training programme for the country's apparel industry workers and those wanting to enter it.

The Skill for Employment Investment Program (SEIP) was launched this week and plans to train 43,800 individuals over three years, followed by job placement in a ready-made garment factory. The idea behind the scheme is to produce a more skilled workforce for the country's apparel industry.

Both new entrants and existing factory workers will be trained under the SEIP, which is being funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and implemented by the Bangladesh Ministry of Finance.
