Trendy women's apparel chain Bebe Stores Inc on Monday blamed low inventory levels for an expected fall in same-store sales in the fiscal first quarter ending in September.

But the retailers said goods were moving off store shelves faster and prices were higher than a year ago, which bode well for profit margins.

"On the positive side, the new deliveries are turning faster than the prior year. We are encouraged that our average price continues to increase due to the new merchandise mix," chief financial officer John Kyees said in a statement.

Bebe on Monday named Jamel Bennoui, a former sourcing and production director for Limited Brands Inc's (NYSE:LTD - News) lingerie chain Victoria's Secret, as vice president of manufacturing.
