Women's fashion chain Bebe Stores Inc on Wednesday announced the appointment of Gregory Gemette as senior vice president and chief merchandising officer of the Bebe Stores division.

The California-based operator of 184 stores said Gemette was most recently vice president and general merchandising manager of the women's store division of apparel retailer American Eagle Outfitters.

"Greg is an outstanding merchant and a savvy businessman. He brings valuable skills that will help bring Bebe Stores Inc to its next level of growth," said chairman and CEO, Manny Mashouf, in a statement.

It added Tom Curtis, who in the interim has been the general merchandising manager of the Bebe Stores division, will focus his attention on the Bebe Sport division as the general merchandising manager.

Bebe also confirmed the resignation of CFO John Kyees, effective November 21, who is leaving to take up a similar position at Urban Outfitters Inc. His replacement has yet to be named.
