Hong Kong-based footwear retailer Belle International Holdings is partnering with Baroque Japan to develop its apparel and accessories business in China through a series of joint ventures.

Belle will work with its wholly-owned subsidiaries Mutual Crown and Able Concord to develop the business. The total investment of the joint ventures is expected to be up to HKD924m (US$119.1m).

As part of the partnership, Mutual Crown has agreed to acquire HKD732.9m worth of shares in Baroque.

"The board considers that the investment, together with the formation of the joint ventures, will provide the group with the opportunity to explore the fashion apparel industry in China, which is expected to increase the group's coverage of the consumer market," Belle said.
