British fashion label Ben Sherman, which was sold to Marquee Brands in July, has entered into consultation with its UK employees.

The move, confirmed by BSGL 1963 Limited, which trades as Ben Sherman, sees Baird Menswear Group appointed as licensee of the business.

A spokesperson for the fashion group, said: "As is standard procedure in this situation a consultative process will now be undertaken and a full review of the impact this appointment has on the business. Throughout this process the brand continues to trade as normal."

The move, the spokesperson said, could potentially impact on the international brand through its distributors, and other partners.
Ben Sherman was sold by Oxford Industries for US$63.7m in July. The brand, while well-established, has been making a loss for several years, and a report by Sky News last month suggested liquidation specialist Gordon Brothers was working with Marquee on offloading the outlets, of which there are 20 in the UK.

The spokesperson said no other comment would be made on the latest move until the consultation period has ended.
