Women's wear maker Bernard Chaus has swung to a full-year net loss of $7.7m, compared to net income of $522,000 last year, amid sloping sales.

The US firm said its said its revenues for the year ended 30 June were $118.0m, down from $146.8m the year before.

For the final quarter its revenues fell 17.6% to $24.4m from $29.6m in the prior year period - widening fourth quarter losses to $3.2m from $2.5m last time.

The company also said it has entered into a new three-year financing agreement with The CIT Group/Commercial Services.

Josephine Chaus, chairwoman and chief executive officer, said growth in the Chaus and Kenneth Cole department and specialty store labels achieving was "more than offset by a decline in our club, private label and Cynthia Steffe businesses."
