In a move that reflects the shifting dynamic of the company, Big Dog Holdings Inc is changing its name to that of its fastest-growing subsidiary, and buying the Natural Comfort Footwear chain to add more stores to its roster.

From early 2008, Big Dog will become The Walking Company Holdings Inc, in a move that CEO Andrew Feshbach says "is part of our continuing plan to expand the operations of The Walking Company."

The acquisition of the eight Natural Comfort stores, when added to the 18 existing TWC stores in Florida, takes the company to 26 stores in that state by next year.

"We expect that increased coverage and density of operation in Florida to enhance the efficiencies of our marketing and operations there and increase sales," Feshbach adds.

The purchase of Natural Comfort is expected to close at the end of the year, and TWC will convert the stores to "The Walking Company" stores.

Big Dog has 138 retail stores, while The Walking Company has 174 stores selling premium brands such as Ecco, Mephisto, Dansko, and Merrell.
