Upscale denim fashion group Blue Cult Inc on Monday announced the appointment of former Gap Inc marketer, Tara Narayan, as its new marketing director, effective immediately.

The California-based company said Narayan will oversee brand development, imaging, execution and strategic planning for Blue Cult in the US and internationally as well as additional new product initiatives in development.

She was most recently director of global in-store marketing at Gap for five years where she worked for divisions including Gap, Gap Kids, Baby Gap and Gap Body.

"After such swift growth, we found ourselves in need of someone to help hone our brand and drive it globally," said CEO David Mechaly in a news release.

"We're certain her marketing expertise will bring continued strength to the company."

Blue Cult, whose handmade fashions are sold around the world, also said it plans to open its first European showroom to join those in Los Angeles, New York and Tokyo.
