Textile chemicals management system Bluesign Technologies has named Jill Dumain as its new CEO, succeeding Peter Waeber who will retire at the end of the year.

Dumain, who is currently director of environmental strategy at outdoor clothing company Patagonia Inc, will take up the post in January 2017.

During her 27 years at Patagonia she has overseen the transition to organic cotton, The Common Threads Recycling Program, The Footprint Chronicles, and the introduction of Bluesign tools and systems.

She has also held leadership and board positions at the Organic Exchange, Textile Exchange and the Sustainability Working Group at the Outdoor Industry Association.

"Jill Dumain has been a strong advocate and supporter of Bluesign from its early days and a member of the advisory board since 2011," says Richard Shentu, Bluesign Technologies' chairman and SGS executive vice president consumer and retail services.

"Her qualifications, extensive industry experience and her proven success in coaching and motivating teams to achieve company objectives make her the ideal person to lead the further development and expansion of Bluesign."

Bluesign works with chemical suppliers, textile mills and component manufacturers to address the environmental, health, and safety impacts of textile manufacturing. 

Peter Waeber has been the architect of the initiative since its launch in 2000, and successfully developed it into a leading input based textile supply chain management system.

He has will continue to serve as a member of Bluesign Technologies' advisory board.
