Belgian footwear company Brantano Group is planning a complete exit from the Danish market after failing to generate a profit there.

Brantano said it has already stopped operating in the country and has so far signed sales deals for eight of its 14 shops. Negotiations to sell the remaining six stores are said to be in progress.

The company started its business in Denmark in 2000 and employs 105 people there.
Brantano Group said in February that it plans to open 20 new UK stores annually over the next few years, adding to the 137 it already operates in that market. The company decided to withdraw from the Netherlands in December 2004.
