Berlin-based fashion trade fair Bread & Butter has filed for insolvency, just over a week after cancelling its next event in January due to lack of interest from exhibitors.

The platform, which brought together selected brands, labels and designers from around the world, filed for bankruptcy with the district court of Berlin-Charlottenburg on Tuesday (16 December), and named lawyer Christian Graf Brockdorff of BBL Bernsau Brockhoff as insolvency administrator.

Bread & Butter organiser, Karl-Heinz Müller, described the move as "painful," adding that "due to legal obligations, I had no other choice. After the cancellation of our January event, we received an unexpected wave of encouragement and support. Therefore we are already working on an alternative concept for January 2015: 'Bread & Butter - Back To The Street.'"

The company's two '14 oz' denim stores and website will continue to operate.

"My team and I will offer our greatest possible support to this Berlin flagship company, in order to secure the financial recovery and the continuation of the business. This includes the execution of the event in January 2015!," Brockdorff said.
