Yorkshire businessman Brian Haggas has acquired the majority of Scotland's Harris Tweed industry by buying KM Group.

Haggas, whose family owns Keighley-based textile maker John Haggas, said he aims to keep and develop the existing business and concentrate on the high end of the market, where Harris Tweed has shown strength.

KM, which produces 95% of Harris Tweed, recently shut one of its two mills and moved all of its work to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis.

The closed mill in Shawbost - also on Lewis - is not included in the sale but its trading company will move to Haggas.

KM had been for sale for the past four years.
