Leading performance running shoe and apparel designer and marketer, Brooks Sports Inc, on Monday announced the opening of a new European subsidiary based in Germany.

Brooks Sports GmbH, located in Muenster, will distribute Brooks' line of high-performance running footwear and apparel to nearly 1,000 retailers throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The new European unit is being formed out of a five-year partnership with TDG, a subsidiary of German-based trend sports and marketing company, Titus AG. The subsidiary will be headquartered at the TDG facility and managed by current TDG staff along with managing director, Hamish Stewart.

"We're pleased to be directly involved in the important German market. Brooks' performance running business in Europe has been growing dramatically and the potential is significant. Opening a subsidiary in Germany marks a major step in taking the Brooks brand to the next level in Europe," said Brooks President and CEO, Jim Weber.

Heiner Ibing, CEO of TDG, addedd: "TDG experienced more than 250 per cent growth in Brooks sales over the past five years. With TDG more intensely focused on its trend businesses and Brooks' total focus on running, it made sense for Brooks to open a subsidiary to build the brand in Europe more effectively.

"We will stay very involved in the transition to assure that all Brooks customer orders will be fulfilled by the new company."

Brooks was founded in 1914 and is headquartered in Bothell, Washington, near Seattle.
