Brown Shoe Company has announced the promotion of Geoff Green to VP - talent acquisitions at the firm.

He will continue to manage domestic and international recruiting for Brown Shoe's offices, distribution centres and more than 1,300 specialty retail footwear stores in North America.

The company said that Green's primary goal is to bring top talent to the organisation, adding that since joining Brown in 2003, that he has been instrumental in pushing key strategic talent and diversity initiatives within the company.

Green was praised by the company for establishing a college recruiting programme that includes Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York, Washington University in St. Louis, Howard University in Washington, DC, and the University of Florida in Gainesville.

He has also helped Brown Shoe develop strong partnerships with several local and national organisations that support diversity, including the Jackie Robinson  Foundation, St Louis Business Diversity Initiative and the Diversity Officers Network, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, National Black MBA Association, Professional Organization of Women, and Pride Fest, the company noted.

"Green's appointment rewards his outstanding performance and demonstrates Brown Shoe's commitment to attracting the best talent and leading the industry in seeking a diverse workforce," said Doug Koch, Brown's chief talent officer and senior VP of human resources.

Green has nearly 20 years experience in the retail industry, including as manager of recruiting for a chain of 700 apparel stores and district sales manager for groups of eight to 15 footwear chain stores.
