Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corp on Wednesday posted a narrower first quarter net loss on the back of a 12.1 per cent jump in sales to $506.1 million from $451.6m in the year-ago period.

The New Jersey-based operator of 324 stores reported a loss of $16.1m, or 36 cents a share, versus a loss of $20.6m, or 46 cents a share, in the year-ago quarter.

The company said plans to open 15 to 25 new stores during the remainder of the current fiscal year.
