US textile giant Burlington Industries Inc is planning to make India a key sourcing base for fabrics, it was reported on Wednesday.

The Economic Times said the North Carolina-based company is working on plans to expand its manufacturing base in Asia, including India where it already operates a denim fabric plant through a joint venture.

"India is on Burlington's list of select countries. It historically always had a large and skilled textile base. We are looking for partners for fabrics like polyester, worsted fabrics, cotton and active sports wear fabrics," Burlington Worldwide president, Peter Liw, said.

"Burlington can share its design and technological know-how to the already large and skilled industry in place. This will also help India to tap a larger share of the world market," he added.
