Bush clothing retailer RM Williams hopes to turn recent disappointing results into profits by sponsoring the Year of the Outback 2002, and through its new concept "shop on wheels".

The company has reported a net loss of $A607,000 on sales for the 52 week period to July 1 2001, compared with $A2.56 million for the same period the previous year.

It is hoped that the sponsorship deal will help to attract tourist dollars, and new products will be introduced to strengthen sales. The company is also hoping that the mobile shop will raise its profile - it will be visiting agricultural shows, rodeos and other events to promote the company and its products.
