Australia's manufacturing sector showed no sign of recovering from recession in the March 2001 quarter said a survey by Australian Business and the Commonwealth Bank which was released June 11.

Textile, clothing and footwear companies in New South Wales were among the worst affected, but the report said that the September quarter looked more hopeful for manufacturers.

Meanwhile, the March quarter national accounts figures released in early June 2001 showed that gross domestic product for the manufacturing sector as a whole fell by 3.9 per cent over the previous 12 months and by 1.3 per cent in the March quarter alone
