The chief executive of leading UK sportswear chain JJB Sports killed himself after becoming depressed over the firm's business troubles, an inquest heard on Monday.

Father-of-four Duncan Sharpe was discovered hanging from a tree near his home in Lancashire on October 7 - three days before he was due to announce the retailer's interim results.

Coroner Michael Fingleton, who recorded a verdict of suicide, was told Mr Sharpe had been receiving treatment for depression in the weeks leading up to his death after becoming anxious over its recent poor performance.
