A campaign boycotting the use of Indian leather is gathering force, with four new retail giants signing up.

Eddie Bauer, LL Bean, Timberland and Casual Corner have all assured the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) that they will not buy Indian leather until the Government tightens up its animal protection laws.

Timberland has also said it would cancel its contract with an Indian tannery by October 1.

PETA is campaigning against cruelty to cattle during transportation and slaughter and has taken the battle into the leather export zone.
