A UK-based firm has come up with a recycled plastic product that has been labelled to show its carbon footprint and can be used to make eco-friendly coat hangers.

Axion Polymers, which supplies some of the UK’s largest garment hanger manufacturers, hopes the 100% post-consumer recycled product will appeal to purchasers seeking to shore up their eco-credentials.

The Axpoly PS13 polystyrene is made from recycled coathangers, which are then re-used to make new ones in a closed-loop recycling process, and carries a label from The Carbon Trust showing its carbon saving.

Research suggests Britain has 540m surplus hangers, of which around 100m go to landfill every year. However, a significant percentage is recycled – and volumes are growing.
