French retail giant Carrefour SA on Friday unveiled the new apparel distribution depot it hopes will strengthen its position as the country's top clothing retailer and boost its sector sales past the 1.6 billion euros mark.

The new 100 million euro warehouse is located 60 miles south of Paris and will serve the firm's 215 hypermarkets. It replaces six deports which each distributed one part of the Carrefour's apparel collections.

The company, which sells around 200 million clothing items a year, said that within two years the warehouse will be able to process 300 million garments a year with the extra capacity earmarked for both domestic and foreign growth.
