Leading US apparel chain Charming Shoppes Inc today reported an increase in sales during October of 56 per cent to $170.4 million.

The retailer, which operates nearly 2,500 stores, said the large increase was partially due to the acquisition of Lane Bryant from Limited Inc, which took place in August.

Sales from the 659 newly acquired stores added $63.9m. However, stores open for over a year saw a four per cent drop in sales. Charming commented on positive overall results in average sales transactions during the period, but said traffic was slower due to the economic slowdown.
