Brand name apparel, footwear and accessories licensor Cherokee Inc has reported a second-quarter profit increase of 18.4 per cent.

For the three months ended 31 July, the California-based company reported an income of $4.3 million, or 50 cents per share.

Royalty revenues in the period rose 3 per cent to $10.2m, from $9.9m in 2003.
The company said there had been a decline in expenses, mostly due to lower legal and marketing costs.

First-half net income increased 10.3 per cent to $9.9m, from $9m last year.

The company reported a revenue increase of 2.1 per cent to $22.4m, from $22m in 2003.

The California-headquartered company works with clients including Target and Marshall Fields, and owns brands such as Sideout and Carole Little.
