April sales at Chico's FAS Inc increased 46.1 per cent to $46.9 million from $32.1 million last year the company said today. Comparable store sales increased 16.8 per cent.

For the first quarter ended 4 May 2002, total sales of private-label women's casual clothing and related accessories increased 39.9 per cent to $130.5 million from $93.2 million in last year's quarter. Comparable store sales were up 13.2 per cent for the thirteen-week period.

Marvin Gralnick, Chico's Chairman and CEO, commented: "The combination of consistent, well executed marketing including national and regional TV, magazine ads and catalogues, plus great product and the ability to procure some of the best real estate in the nation, have all contributed to our 19th consecutive quarter (excluding the third quarter of last year) of same-store sales increases that have exceeded 12 per cent."
