The Children's Place Retail Stores Inc has named James Bruce Marshall as senior vice president and managing director of international business development.

Tasked with growing the retailer's international expansion, he will report directly to Jane Elfers, president and chief executive officer of the company, which is the largest pure-play children's specialty apparel retailer in North America.

Marshall has more than 25 years' experience managing franchising, licensing and joint ventures for global brands. Most recently he was senior vice president and managing director, international development and operations, for Claire's Stores Inc, where he was responsible for their joint venture and franchise operations across 23 countries.

Prior to this he was responsible for expanding Warner Bros' licensed brands in the Asia Pacific market, and spent 16 years with Marks and Spencer, where he set up the retailer's franchise operations across Central and Eastern Europe.

The Children's Place operates 995 stores.
