Kids' apparel retailer Children's Place Retail Stores Inc on Thursday recorded a 19 per cent rise in first quarter earnings to $15.2 million compared to $12.8m in the year-ago period.

But the New Jersey-based company saw its share price tumbed 10 per cent as it warned it expects a bigger-than expected second quarter loss.

The operator of around 550 apparel stores across the US, added first-quarter sales climbed eight percent to $173, while same-store sales fell 11 per cent.
