Corporate apparel maker Wensum Company Plc on Monday posted a slight rise in first half sales and profit.

The firm, which makes clothing including uniforms for airline employees, reported a pre-tax profit of £444,000 for the 27 weeks ended August 2 versus £432,000 last year as sales rose to £7.7 million from £7.5m in the year-ago period.

Its corporate business enjoyed a strong first half and while sales at its clothing unit were similar to last year, profits fell due to margin pressures.

Wensum said it sees full-year operating profits broadly in line with last year but warned a profit improvement at its corporate division in the second half will be offset by a shortfall at the clothing unit.
